Dear Friend:

Friends for Peace is a coalition of meditation, environmental and peace groups whose mission is to promote, strengthen and maintain peace and justice within our communities and the environment.   We accomplish our objectives through creating inclusive multi-ethnic, inter-faith events such as the annual Peace Prayer Days, which bring together the community to acknowledge the value of local social activism, and to explore the inner expression of peace through song, dance, drumming, meditation and art.   To date, proceeds from past events have been presented to the following groups to support their work:  Ottawa Multi-Faith Housing Initiative, Child Haven International, Peace Camp Canada, the Nelson Mandela School Foundation and Physicians for Global Survival.

We hope that you will be able to assist by contributing items for our silent auction and by encouraging members of your community to attend Peace Prayer Day 2007.  The auction is just one event on the day’s program, which will include a full slate of activities for the whole family, including performances by local artists and choirs, as well as a Peace Awards ceremony.  This year’s award recipients are:  David Smith and Sr. Mary-Ellen Francoeur.  David is being recognized for his Foundation, which assists young people in the city at risk from drugs, while Mary-Ellen is being honoured for her efforts in the advancement of interfaith advocacy for peace.  Donations collected during the day will be offered to the David Smith Foundation. If you are willing to contribute to our silent auction, please send your item(s) to the silent auction coordinator:  Isabel Sebastiao, 40 Mark St., Apt. #2, Ottawa, ON, K1L 6A7 by October 1, 2006.  If you have any questions, please also feel free to contact her by e-mail at happinessandjoy2you@yahoo.ca or by phone at (613) 745-2499.

Thank you for your support in helping to make Peace Prayer Day 2007 a success.  We look forward to seeing you and members of your community there.

Yours sincerely,
Ian Prattis
